MULTISENSORY & IMMERSIVE
CULINARY EXPERIENECS

About Us

Kitchen Theory is a London-based multisensory experience design studio and award-winning Chef’s Table led by chef and creative director Jozef Youssef.

Since 2013 we have been working at the intersection of food, science, art and psychology, we create dining experiences that explore how the senses shape flavour, memory, emotion and behaviour. Our work brings together chef-led gastronomy, sensory research, storytelling, sound, light, aroma and immersive technology to transform a meal into something more meaningful.

our mission

We believe food has the power to do more than nourish or delight. It can shape how we feel, how we connect, how we remember, and how we understand our own health. Through our work, we explore the relationship humans have with food across two connected areas: the sensory experience of eating and the nutritional role food plays in society.

This means looking closely at how sight, sound, smell, taste and touch work together to influence flavour perception, emotion and behaviour, while also exploring how ingredients, bioactive compounds and emerging nutritional research can help us better understand the functional potential of food.

By combining chef-led creativity with scientific collaboration, Kitchen Theory aims to contribute to a future where food experiences (in our homes, restaurants, schools, hospitals, care homes and beyond) are designed in a more sensorily considered manner to encourage healthier, more nutritious & sustainable eating habits, while also encouraging more meaningful and mindful engagement with food. All of which is beneficial to human wellbeing.

our approach

Since inception Kitchen Theory has collaborated with leading scientists, psychologists, global brands and cultural partners to push the boundaries of gastronomy.

At the heart of everything we do is delicious food, and to support this we use science, creativity and generous hospitality to make dining more thoughtful, immersive and unforgettable.

From our intimate Chef’s Table in Central London to private dining, product launches, cultural events, innovation workshops and large-scale brand activations around the world, we help guests and brands connect through food in ways that are memorable, emotional and deeply shareable.

The Multisensory Chef – Jozef Youssef

Founder and Creative Director, Kitchen Theory | Academician, Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Chef Jozef Youssef is redefining what a dining experience can be.

As the founder and creative director of Kitchen Theory, he works at the intersection of gastronomy, psychology, sensory science, technology and storytelling—transforming food into experiences that engage the senses, provoke curiosity and remain in the memory long after the final course.

His approach was shaped by years spent in some of London’s most acclaimed Michelin-starred kitchens, combined with a deep interest in how the mind constructs flavour. Rather than treating a dish as something that exists only on the plate, Jozef considers the complete experience around it: the sound, light, aroma, texture, atmosphere, narrative and emotional context through which it is encountered.

Through Kitchen Theory, he has developed pioneering multisensory experiences for global brands, cultural organisations and private clients across the world. His work ranges from intimate projection-mapped chef’s tables to large-scale cultural showcases, future-food concepts, scientific research projects and immersive brand experiences.

Research is central to his practice. Jozef has collaborated extensively with leading academics and scientists and has contributed to 37 academic papers exploring areas including multisensory flavour perception, gastrophysics, sustainable foods, digital dining and experiential gastronomy. His work demonstrates how scientific insight can move beyond the laboratory and become something tangible, engaging and delicious.

He is the author of The Multisensory Chef: A Practitioner’s Guide to Designing Immersive and Multisensory Food Experiences, which brings together more than a decade of Kitchen Theory’s research, creative practice and experience-design methodology. He is also the author of Molecular Gastronomy at Home: Taking Culinary Physics Out of the Lab and Into Your Kitchen, an accessible guide to the techniques and scientific principles behind modernist cooking.

Jozef is also an Academician of The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, a TEDx speaker, and media personality, having appeared on MasterChef UK, Top Chef Middle East, as well as Food Network’s Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking and other international news, entertainment programmes & documentaries. His work has been featured by a long list of print and online publications including the BBC, The Guardian, The New Yorker, The Economist and Forbes.

At the heart of his work is a simple principle: food must always be delicious—but its potential extends far beyond taste. In Jozef’s hands, gastronomy becomes a medium for storytelling, education, gastro-diplomacy, innovation and emotional connection.
